When you're already catching waves on your own, there comes a point where surfing more doesn't always mean progressing more. Technical Training classes with Miguel Rodríguez are designed for surfers with autonomy in the water who want to better understand their surfing, identify what's holding them back, and work in a more specific way.
You don't need to be an advanced surfer or compete. The starting point is that you can manage yourself in the water and are eager to work on what you do on the board.
We mainly train in El Palmar and, when it makes sense, we travel to other peaks along the coast of Cádiz to find a suitable setting for the session's work.
Stop repeating and start understanding
Many times you know something isn't quite working, but not exactly why. You might feel like you lack speed, that you're late for a turn, that your position isn't helping you, or simply that you've been doing the same things for a while without noticing clear progress.
Technical Training aims to bring order to all of that. Observe, identify what's worth improving, and give you something concrete you can take to your next session.
Depending on your surfing, we can work on aspects such as board positioning, speed generation, turns, wave reading, paddling, wave selection, or decision-making.
Train with Miguel Rodríguez
Miguel Rodríguez is a former competitor and coach with over 15 years of experience, with a track record in training surfers and Spanish champions.
His job is not to apply a one-size-fits-all list of corrections. He observes how you surf, identifies the patterns that are conditioning your surfing, and decides where it is worth focusing.
That's why we work with groups of a maximum of 6 surfers: we want there to be real time to observe and work with each person during the session.
Surf, see, understand, and get back in the water
Each Technical Training session lasts approximately 2 hours. In addition to the work in the water, we use video when conditions allow for recording the session and when it truly adds value to the technical work.
Reviewing your waves afterward allows you to see things that are difficult to perceive while surfing and better understand the instructions worked on during the session. We don't aim to give you twenty things to improve at once, but rather to help you identify which aspect might make the most sense to work on first.
The idea is to build a process: surf, observe, understand, try a change, and get back in the water with new references.
You don't need to consider yourself an advanced surfer
These classes are for you if you already have enough autonomy to catch waves on your own and want to dedicate more attention to your surfing.
- You've been surfing for a while and feel stuck.
- You want to understand why something you're trying to do isn't working out.
- You want to work on specific aspects of your surfing.
- You are looking to train continuously throughout the season.
If you are still learning to handle yourself independently in the water, you will probably get more out of one of our group or private surf lessons before moving on to Technical Training.
Continuous training changes the process
You can book a single session or choose a multi-session package if you want to work for several months. Having continuity allows you to get back in the water between training sessions, try out what you've worked on, and arrive at the next session with new feelings and questions.
We offer 4 and 8-class packages for those who want to maintain a training process throughout the season.
Packages can be used during the Technical Training season in El Palmar, subject to availability.
Sessions from October to May
We organize Technical Training classes mainly on weekends from October to May, provided they do not coincide with our Technical Training Surfcamps.
The schedule and surf spot are usually confirmed a few days in advance. We take into account the swell, wind, tides, and expected conditions to decide where it makes the most sense to conduct the training.
Do you want to work on your surfing for several days?
If you are looking for a more intensive format, we also organize Technical Training Surfcamps with Miguel Rodríguez, where we can provide continuity to the work over several days by combining surf sessions, analysis, and training.
Book your next session
Spaces are limited to 6 surfers per group and you can book a session or a package directly from this page.
If you are unsure if your level fits Technical Training, write to us using the WhatsApp button on the website, tell us how long you have been surfing and what you currently do in the water, and we will guide you.
