Once you already know how to surf independently, the problem is rarely simply “surf more”. The difficult part is identifying what is holding you back and working precisely on that.

The Surf Coaching Camp with Miguel Rodríguez is designed for independent surfers who want to move beyond the point where they repeat sessions, sensations and mistakes without being clear about what to change.

See it, understand it and take it back into the water

Video analysis and Surfskate are at the centre of the process. Seeing your surfing from the outside makes it possible to identify details of position, timing or line that go unnoticed in the water; on land we can repeat the movement many more times and then try it again with a clear reference.

We are not trying to give you twenty corrections. The idea is for you to finish the camp knowing which two or three things have the greatest impact on your surfing right now and with practical guidelines to keep working on them afterwards.

Understanding surfing is also trained out of the water

At the Surfhouse we work on a part that often does not fit inside one session: technique, ocean reading, strategy and psychology applied to surfing. We talk about how to read a session, where to position yourself, which waves to choose, when to attack a section, wait or change line, and how to make better decisions when you return to the water.

We also work on tools for managing frustration, fear, pressure or blocks that can appear while surfing. The aim is not to turn the camp into a theory class, but to understand what is happening so the next surf makes more sense.

Prepare your body to perform better in the water

Surf-specific physical training is not limited to one isolated workout. We want you to take away exercises and techniques you can incorporate into your routine, aimed at improving useful strength, mobility, endurance and body control with one objective: better performance in the water.

Mobility, stretching and recovery between sessions are part of being a complete surfer and of being able to surf several days in a row without accumulating tension, soreness or overload. We work on simple routines to release the body, recover better between surfs and reduce the risk of strains and discomfort.

Sharing day-to-day life with Miguel

One of the most special parts of this edition is that Miguel does not arrive only to teach a session and leave. He stays with the group at the Surfhouse during the camp, so there is also time to talk about surfing outside training hours, discuss sessions, ask questions, hear experiences and understand first-hand how he sees progression, technique, competition and the years he has dedicated to surfing.

Many of the most useful conversations happen precisely there: after a session, while watching a video, during a meal or while discussing a specific situation from the water. It is an unusual opportunity to learn not only from what Miguel teaches, but also from his experience and his way of living and understanding surfing.

An intensive programme with part of the logistics sorted

During the camp we include half board. In a programme with several sessions, analysis and work outside the water, having some meals organised at the Surfhouse means the day does not have to revolve around driving, bookings and restaurants. This lets us adapt times to the sea and use the time for training, recovery and rest.

A group that has come for the same reason

Sharing the Surfhouse with other surfers who also want to progress changes the experience. People talk about sessions, discuss videos, compare sensations and learn by watching each other too. We organise the programme and logistics so the camp has a thread, rather than being a collection of separate activities.

Guided Surf: learning from inside the water

In one of the sessions, Miguel gets in the water with the group to accompany the surf from inside. He helps you better interpret what is happening and guides and motivates the session while each participant puts into practice what we have worked on.

It is also a great opportunity to share waves with him. He has been surfing since he was six and works professionally in the world of surfing. You can observe how he reads the ocean, how he approaches each situation and learn alongside someone who lives surfing as part of his everyday life. A direct, dynamic and very special experience that adds another dimension to the work done out of the water.

It is aimed at surfers with basic independence who already catch waves on their own and want to train with more purpose, not at someone looking for a first beginner lesson.

The price corresponds to an individual place in a shared room with a bunk bed.

Frequently asked questions

What level do I need to take part?
You need basic independence in the water: you should be able to paddle, move around safely and catch waves in both directions. You do not need to be an advanced surfer or compete. If you are unsure, message us and we will help you decide whether this Surf Coaching Camp is right for you.

Do I need to bring my own board and wetsuit?
Ideally you will work with the equipment you normally surf with, as it is part of your surfing. If you need a board or wetsuit, we can provide one.

How many people take part?
We work with a maximum of 8 participants so we can closely follow each surfer's development throughout the camp.

Which meals are included?
Friday dinner, breakfasts during the stay and the Saturday night barbecue are included. On editions with an additional day, lunch on that day is also included.

What happens if sea conditions change?
We monitor the forecast in the days leading up to the camp and adapt surf times and locations to the conditions. If the sea changes, we adjust the programme to find the option that best fits the work planned.

Can I come on my own?
Yes. It is common for Surf Coaching Camp participants to arrive without knowing the rest of the group beforehand.

How does the video analysis work?
We film part of the work in the water and use the footage to review positioning, decisions and movements. The aim is to identify specific points you can take into the following sessions.

How do I get to El Palmar and how do we get around during the camp?
Transport to El Palmar is not included. Once here, we carry the surf equipment in the van and organise the group for trips to the beaches. If you need help planning your arrival, message us on WhatsApp.

Is insurance included?
Yes. Accident insurance during the activities is included.

What happens if it is windy or conditions do not allow surfing?
Surfing depends on nature, and wind, swell, tides and weather are part of any surf trip. A Surfcamp is a scheduled multi-day experience combining accommodation, group life and different activities, so an unfavourable forecast or the inability to run one or more surf sessions does not in itself mean that the Surfcamp is cancelled or automatically entitle the participant to a refund.

We follow the conditions closely and adapt the programme to make the best possible use of each day. If it is not safe to enter the water, we will not run the surf session and may reorganise the programme with activities related to the experience, such as Surfskate, video analysis, surf technique and theory, ocean reading, surf-specific training, mobility, physical preparation or other group activities. We will always try to use any suitable surfing window, but we cannot guarantee that every planned session or a fixed number of hours in the water can take place when natural conditions prevent it.

Cancelling or adapting one activity does not mean cancelling the whole Surfcamp. Decisions about water activities are made by Carving Social Club and its technical team, with group safety always the priority.

How are rooms and beds allocated?
The price corresponds to an individual place in a shared room with a bunk bed. Miguel lives at the Surfhouse with the group throughout the camp, so the experience is not limited to the structured sessions: we share breakfasts, time between training blocks and conversations where you can hear first-hand about his experiences, how he understands surfing and what he has learned over the years.
